Why is 'Randy Travis dead' trending?

RANDY Travis is one of the most popular country singers in America and has been on the music scene since 1978.

But after years of poor health, hospital visits and accidental TV blunders the legendary man has been called dead multiple times on social media in dodgy hoaxes despite him still being alive.

Who is Randy Travis?

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016, the star born on May 4, 1959, is also a gospel singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor.

Brought up in Marshville, North Carolina, the artist has achieved a whopping 16 number one songs.

He has sold over 25 million records and won seven Grammy Awards, six CMA Awards, eleven ACM Awards, 10 AMA Awards, eight GMA Dove Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He also won the CMT Artist of a Lifetime award in 2021 but hasn’t released any new music since 2014.

Shortly after they becoming engaged to Mary Davis in 2013, Randy suffered a massive stroke, with only a one percent chance of recovery.

Mary said about her now-husband: "Even in his state, his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand and he laid there and I just saw this tear that fell and it was one tear at a time.

“I just went back to the doctors and I said, ‘We’re fighting this.'"

She stood by him and after his recovery the couple were married on March 21, 2015 .

Why is 'Randy Travis dead' trending?

In October 2023, the former singer was falsely pronounced dead on YouTube in several videos.

One of the most seen hoax clips was by Celebrity 24H and got 85,000 views.

They uploaded a baseless clip titled "RIP! Randy Travis (1959-2023). The Singer will forever remain in the hearts of fans".

The two minute 38 second clip shows a slideshow of famous photos of the celebrity’s life with a voice over telling fans about Randy's life.

Celebrity Archive did a similar video titled "Rest in peace Randy Travis (1959-2023). Fans send their condolences to the singer".

It has been seen 54,000 times and is the third most viewed clip on their channel.

The legendary singer has been at the heart of death rumors for over a decade now after serious health issues came up.

He famously suffered a massive stroke in 2013 after struggling with congestive heart failure and spent most of his time in Tennessee and Texas hospitals, undergoing two brain surgeries as a result.

Randy also suffered from pneumonia on three separate occasions and was intubated. 

Over the years however, the musical artist has shown positive signs of recovery.

In October 2022, a video of Travis playing beer pong with global superstar Post Malone after the rock star's Nashville show on his tour went viral.

Although on September 30, 2021, “Randy Travis dead” trended on X, formerly known as Twitter, after Good Morning America's Michael Strahan accidentally said "RIP" when referring to him on the show.

After the morning show played a Travis song, Strahan said "Randy Travis may he rest in peace."

Despite his off-hand remark, Travis is still alive and well.

Following Strahan's comment, fans took to social media to make sure that the record was set straight.

One fan said: "@michaelstrahan Hey Randy Travis isn't dead, yet you said Rest In Peace! Uh oh."
